To put it simply, to give tradability, and in turn, actual value. These are guesses, however, and I wanted to get some insight into if they are legitimate and what other problems using crypto for BATs solves that couldn’t happen with fiat currency. Using a decentralized coin is more economically feasible for a company like Brave because they don’t need to integrate a third party to process payments. The BAT currency could be adopted by other browsers and become a universal currency for internet attention. Two things I thought may be the answer are: What holds me back from making this argument is - why crypto? Brave is still a centralized company, why can’t they just use fiat currency for their model? It’s something I think most people would agree is a great thing. This is empowering to users and I believe an alternative to the current advertising and privacy issues of Web 2.0. What an amazing concept - you opt into advertising, you earn money for that opt-in and can choose whether to reward sites you visit with your time/attention or keep that value for yourself. When I try to think of ways to articulate crypto to the aforementioned people, I think of the Brave Browser. Monetary freedom is not valued as much by people who lean left - for instance a lot of redditors and Twitter users.ĭecentralization as a concept, however, can go beyond monetary freedom in ways I think many can’t even comprehend currently. The fact of the matter is, right now crypto is very much a revolution in monetary freedom.
That being said, the crypto hate wave is gaining steam, especially on Reddit. My main motivation is simply that I am fascinated with cryptography and trust-less systems.
